Haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation requires specialist programme review.

Autologous and allogeneic HSCT are distinct from solid-organ transplantation. Organ-allocation and deceased-donor waiting-list language does not apply to these pages.

Use an appropriate haematology transplant programme

The treating programme must confirm the indication, patient fitness, cell source, conditioning plan, laboratory and infection-control pathway, consent and follow-up requirements.

For allogeneic HSCT, donor suitability requires independent medical assessment, HLA and compatibility work-up, infection screening, voluntary informed consent and a safe collection plan.
For autologous HSCT, the patient’s own cells are mobilised, collected, processed, stored and reinfused; donor relationship and organ-allocation processes are not relevant.
Cell identity, collection, processing, storage, transport, traceability and release should follow the treating programme’s quality and safety procedures.
Established HSCT for recognised indications must not be confused with unproven “stem-cell therapy.” Investigational use requires the applicable ethics, clinical-trial and regulatory review.
Cell or stem-cell-derived products that fall within India’s new-drug framework may require CDSCO permissions under the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules; the treating institution must determine what applies to the proposed product or protocol.

Why the cost varies

No single figure fits every Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant case.

Allogeneic haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation replaces blood-forming cells using cells from a suitably matched donor. It may provide an immune-mediated effect against selected blood cancers and treat some non-malignant disorders, but requires careful HLA matching and carries graft-versus-host disease risk.
